Our Favorite Fuel-Efficient Toyotas for Commuters Near Sacramento
Whether you need to get in and out of Sacramento every day for work or you have a job that keeps you on the road a lot, we know that commuters have needs from their vehicles that many other drivers don't necessarily understand. There are plenty of people who want good fuel economy and a dependable vehicle, but there's a difference between that being something someone wants and something that you need. Fortunately, Toyota understands the needs of commuters in a way that few other brands do, and they've been making some of the most efficient and reliable vehicles on the road for many decades now.
If you want a hybrid sedan that's perfect for minimizing stops for gas with a lot of driving in the city, then Toyota has you covered. On the other hand, if you want to try out an all-electric crossover SUV, the Toyota bZ4X is the perfect choice with incredible performance, excellent range, and a gorgeous design. If you have been looking for a Lincoln, CA Toyota dealer, we suggest you visit us in Yuba City. We can help you find the perfect commuter vehicle to get you where you need to go in style—but you don't have to take our word for it: here are Toyota's six best commuter vehicles...
The Toyota Corolla
Right at the top of our list for the best commuter vehicles out there is the Toyota Corolla, or more specifically, the three different Corolla options—that's right, three! This is a compact car, so it's a fantastic choice if you're looking for something on the small side because all three versions make great use of their space. This makes these Corolla models very efficient, of course, but it also makes it easy to fit them into a downsized lifestyle.
The standard Corolla is a compact sedan with a 169-hp engine, which means it's still got some hoof, plus it gets an EPA-estimated 32 MPG in the city and 41 MPG on the highway; this is a great choice if you do a lot of highway driving. If you tend to do more city driving, with a lot of stops and starts, then the Corolla Hybrid is an amazing pick with a remarkable hybrid engine that gets an EPA-estimated 53 MPG in the city and 46 MPG on the highway.
Few other models come close to this kind of fuel economy for driving around Lincoln and Sacramento on a regular basis. There's also a Corolla Hatchback available with the same efficiency as the sedan but with a design that's perfect if you need a bit more functional trunk space.
The Toyota Prius
If the incredible fuel efficiency of the Corolla still doesn't satisfy, then take a look at the iconic Toyota Prius for two of the most impressive hybrid options on the market. The standard Prius features a hybrid engine that delivers 196 hp and gets an EPA-estimated 57 MPG in the city and 56 MPG on the highway. This is perfect for any kind of driving, as you can see, plus its compact design means it is easy to park in a garage or any parking spot you come across in the city.
For an electrified experience, the Prius Prime is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), which means you can charge its hybrid battery system with an external plug. Not only is the Prius Prime incredibly efficient, but it also allows for about 44 miles of all-electric range from a full charge without ever touching your gas tank. If you want something with impressive fuel economy and the ability to make a quick jaunt with zero emissions, then this is a great choice.
The Toyota Camry
Rounding out our sedan options, the Toyota Camry is a larger midsize car that's perfect if you prefer something a bit more spacious while still keeping your stops for gas to a minimum. The standard Camry gets pretty good gas mileage, with an EPA-estimated 28 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway if you choose its starting engine. For greater efficiency, the Camry Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 51 MPG in the city and 53 MPG on the highway; this is a terrific pick if you drive to or around Sacramento each day since it will save you a lot of gas across your commute, as well as on your days off.
The Toyota Corolla Cross
Not to be confused with the Corolla sedan we looked at earlier, the Corolla Cross is a subcompact crossover that gives you SUV functionality in a small size that's remarkably efficient. This is one of our favorite commuter SUVs since its modest size means you don't have to worry about how to fit it into your life or feel overbearing when driving through crowded city streets. The standard Corolla Cross has impressive efficiency, with an EPA-estimated 31 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway.
If you want something even more economical, the Corolla Cross Hybrid has your name all over it with a 196-hp engine that gets an EPA-estimated 45 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway. One of the best things about this model is that it comes with all-wheel drive (AWD), making it a great choice if you want something for commuting as well as going on adventures on the weekend.
The Toyota RAV4
The Toyota RAV4 has been the bestselling SUV in the world for several years; there are many reasons behind this, not the least of which is that this gorgeous compact SUV is extremely comfortable and fun to drive, with three options for remarkable efficiency. The standard RAV4 has a 203-hp engine that gets an EPA-estimated 27 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway, making it a great choice for daily trips on the 80 down into Sac City.
For something more efficient, there's a RAV4 Hybrid with a 219-hp engine that gets an EPA-estimated 41 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway, making it a terrific choice for your commute and heading anywhere else you need to go. Finally, the RAV4 Prime is a PHEV model with a powerful 302-hp engine, an EPA-estimated 38 MPG combined fuel economy, and about 42 miles of all-electric range. The fact that the RAV4 Prime also looks stunning and has an available 10.5-inch infotainment display is simply icing on the cake.
The New Toyota bZ4X
If you're interested in leaving the gas pump behind completely, then check out the Toyota bZ4X, a new fully-electric compact SUV that's an outstanding option for commuters. With available AWD, the bZ4X is remarkably fun to drive, with a standard 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia display and a gorgeous interior that's as comfortable as it is spacious. Its all-electric design lets it get up to 252 miles of range from a full charge, with instant torque that's sure to give you goosebumps and have you looking forward to your next straightaway.
