One of the mainstays in the Toyota brand is the reliable Camry. On the market since 1983, this model has been a loved member of the Toyota family since its debut, and it continues to dominate its segment despite the slow decline of sedan popularity. The Camry is the perfect example of an exceptional, run-of-the-mill car. There’s no glamor about the Camry, but glamor is not the point. The point of a Camry is to be solid, reliable, and, these days, fuel-efficient. The Camry is the kind of car for people who are still committed to the sedan as an idea, but of course, the Camry is more than that.

Sacramento is a busy city filled with narrow streets, exciting sights, and its fair share of traffic. Big SUVs are not going to be able to effectively move you around the city as they can be difficult to park and maneuver around other vehicles. You need a sedan to complement your life here in the city. You need something that’s comfortable, fuel-efficient, and safe. Well, we’re happy to tell you that the Camry ticks all of these boxes so well that it’s consistently considered one of the best and most popular midsize sedans on the market. If you are looking for a Toyota Camry for sale in Sacramento, we here at Future Toyota of Yuba City are ready to help you out.

How the Camry Has Risen in Popularity

The first generation Toyota Camry was a boxy, square-stance, front-wheel drive sedan that emerged in 1983. This was Toyota's first entry into the emerging compact sedan market. The Camry, along with its biggest rival, the Honda Accord, are among the few nameplates left from this decade, as most other options from domestic manufacturers at that time are now either discontinued or have different names.

The first generation, or V10, Camry was a classic and straightforward four-door sedan or liftback model. The humble 2.0L inline-four engine produced a respectable 92 horsepower, and you could choose either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission. A considerably larger sedan than the one it had replaced, Toyota’s forgotten Corona, the early Camry’s had everything going for it. It was comfortable, configurable, and came with Toyota’s “no hassle” guarantee of longevity and usefulness. All told, the features that made the Camry popular in the 1980s are the exact same features that make it popular in the 2020s.

Toyota began producing Camry in the North American market in 1988, well into the sedan’s second generation. They were built at a manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. Coincidentally, that same year, 1988, saw a massive rise in sales for the Camry, with over 200,000 units sold. Going through the generations of the Camry, you can definitely see the design change with the times. By the beginning of the 2000s, the Camry was a very modest, conservative sedan with unoffensive styling and plenty of crowd-pleasing features. Subsequent generations have seen an angular quality appear in the headlights and bodywork, though the overall appearance is still relatively rounded and appealing. The present generation began in 2018, and this Camry is an overall more aggressive-looking machine than any previous iteration. In a market with relatively little competition, the Camry continues to stand out in terms of styling and features.

Comfort for Daily Travel

Dealing with the streets and traffic of Sacramento can mean spending a lot of time in your car, so it needs to be able to provide some comfort. Luckily, you have options when it comes to the 2023 Camry. This year, the Camry has eight different trim levels: the LE, XLE, SE, SE Nightshade, XSE, TRD, XLE V6, and XSE V6.

Starting at the bottom of the scale, an MSRP of $25,945 will get you an LE trim model.[a] In this model, you will find dual-zone automatic climate control, a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen, Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ features, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa capability. From features for comfort to features for convenience when using your technology to features that will help keep you safe, even the cheapest 2023 Camry has you covered.

The top trim, the XSE, provides all of the previous features and updates, including a nine-inch infotainment system with six speakers, leather-trimmed heated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, and a more robust version of Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ features. No need to worry about anyone feeling cramped in any of the Camry trims either, as there is 42.1 inches of legroom in the front and 38 inches in the back.

Fuel Economy to Handle Regular Commuting

City life is not easy on your fuel consumption. All of the stopping and starting can really burn through fuel quickly. Luckily, the 2023 Camry has some pretty fuel-efficient gas engines and is even available as a hybrid model.

The standard engine for the 2023 Camry is a 2.5L four-cylinder mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces up to 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. All-in-all, with this engine and front-wheel drive, your fuel economy ratings will be about 28 MPG in the city and 39 MPG on the highway. Those are excellent numbers and are sure to make your city travels feel a little easier as you don't have to stress about getting to the gas station as often.

The second engine available for the gas-only Camry is a 3.5L V6 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine will give you a lower fuel economy rating of 22 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway: still respectable numbers, especially when compared to many SUV models. However, what you lose in fuel economy, you make up for with power. This engine produces 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque for a fun drive through town.

The final option is the 2.5L four-cylinder hybrid engine with a continuously variable transmission. This combination gives you 208 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque. If fuel economy is your main concern, then this is the option to go with, as it will give you 51 MPG in the city and 53 MPG on the highway.

Keeping You Safe on Your Travels

As we said before, the 2023 Camry comes with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ set of driver-assist features. This is the latest, most up-to-date safety system in Toyota’s arsenal. In the world of modern car buying, having intelligent safety technology that goes beyond the standard airbags and seatbelts is crucial. Today’s cars need to be able to combat the ever-increasing issue of distracted drivers and do so seamlessly.

The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (Full-Speed Range in higher trims)

That last one essentially means that your Camry’s radar will sense the speed of the vehicle in front of you and adjust its own speed accordingly in order to maintain a safe following distance. Other safety features include a backup camera, rear passenger reminder (good for families with young kids), and available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.
