A History of Toyota in America
Toyota is one of the top-selling passenger vehicle brands in the U.S., and it all started back in Hollywood, California, in 1957, when Toyota opened its first American headquarters. Toyota only continued to top the charts and break records from there. They put out their first zero-emissions vehicle in 2002 and the first luxury hybrid in 2005, with the Lexus RX 400h. By 2008, they outsold the American brand Chevrolet, and by 2017 they sold over 10 million hybrid vehicles globally. Toyota has continued its commitment to a zero-emissions product and, in recent years, pledged to dedicate $3.4 billion to an EV battery plant.
